With the release of my first illustration project, a children's book written by a dear friend, Michelle Raynor, I can finally consider myself a real artist! But in truth, I've been an artist all my life.
Before the professional photography market went digital, I was a negative retoucher-- the artist who works with dyes and leads (and sometimes needles and knives), on film under a magnifying glass.
I was the airbrusher who took away unwanted bulges and toned down the traces of age (not to mention a few embarrassing zits) on wall portraits and prints. Need a more impressive sunset? Send it to the airbrusher! Photographic art was certainly challenging, but nobody notices when it's done well.
After the digital era began, I went into goof-off mode painting gifts for family, murals for friends' bedrooms, photographers' backgrounds, along with many projects for my children. I've just recently decided to sit down and fine-tune my drawing skills with pencil. I couldn't be more happy with the results and have several children books already lined up. :-)
Please contact me if you'd like to see a more detailed portfolio for picture book illustrations.
